Once upon a time, my mom and I had a booth at a farmer’s market. We made Nice n Warms, little bags full of cracked feed corn or rice. Stick em in the microwave or in the freezer and you had a nice, long lasting, hot or cold pack. I still keep them around the house, but they were kind of a hit or miss seller at the market, so we ended up shutting the booth down.
Anyways, when we shut the project down, we ended up keeping ALL the fabric we had bought to make them. It’s mostly cotton prints, but it takes up a decent amount of space in the craft room. One day, I was irritated with the blue quilt and I sorted through the box of cotton prints from the nice n’ warms. We had pre-cut everything into 6.5 inch wide strips, between 10 and 15 inches long. I curated a collection of pinks and cut them down to 5.5 inches and decided to just start piecing together a bunch of 4×4 squares to make larger quilt blocks.
Hopefully I’ll be able to line these up so the same fabrics aren’t sitting right next to each other. If they are, oh well. I’m going to take a block with me to the fabric store to grab a backer and batting. I’ve mathed it out and I believe it’s going to be about 60×60 inches. My usual fabric store is about an hour away, so if I time it right, the baby can get a good car nap in and have a good time while I shop, then snooze on the way back home.
